Google seems to be going back to the browser wars of old. I noticed they block text based browsers now and say you need to update your browser. Also with all of the doom and gloom rhetoric of the AI era there has never been so many choices of grass roots platforms for computers as tools rather than as assistants. Due to mobile tech we have all sorts of form factors and ways to take tech into our own hands. Also the alternatives are cheap and abundant. Just as a laugh but there is some truth in it, tech these days is like pure conformity. You still get to choose but you have little to no say.
This sounds odd but nothing has changed as far as core consumer tech goes in that Microsoft admitted 1980s code is still baked into Windows 11. At the same time 1960s code is baked into UNIX clones and variants. Just the whole experience has branched in many directions and with AI that is just one part of many of that growth. I just like that I can do stuff on a computer under $200 and not have to log into every damn thing and tracking, statistics, algorithm that knows more about me than I do. Also I can stream some radio and have no other distractions.
