Commercial considerations

Had a dream last night I was back at art school. It was our main night to show our works. I had gone on a tangent and was showing a strange semi sculptural piece though when I was rearranging it I realised it looked like a commercial cabinet. It was too commercial in the end. Sort of like my painting had been in my latest show. It was a conscious effort on my part. With my new work I am trying to get that out of it. I don’t want any commercial throw backs or looks. For years I kept commercial considerations out of my work but it crept in eventually. I really want to think about the paint work and a bigger picture focus. So far on the bigger work I am splitting the canvas into sections to create a narrative and have different elements playing off each other. I hope that makes the work complex and free of these other commercial ideas.
