Social norms

Something that I wrote about years ago was how I would break social norms. A young woman at an exhibition for example was obviously mentally unwell and approaching people who were basically freaking out. When she came up to me and a random person I was chatting to, the person next to me looked like he had seen a ghost and I just started talking normally to the young woman explaining the process of getting a referral to a psychiatrist. I told her I had suffered from schizophrenia and after seeing a GP as I was feeling suicidal I got my referral and got the help I needed. I also gave her my psychiatrist’s number. Because I was talking to her like a human being she at first took a step back from me in disbelief. I hope she got the help she needed because I never saw her again.

Another time was when I was training karate, I was working in an adult bookstore in the Cross and on the way home to Darlinghurst two men my age tried to bash me. One man tried to punch me and he slipped off me and stumbled then they squared up. I just stood looking at them without a care in the world. I was totally neutral and relaxed. I could feel the power of nature behind me. They were egging each other on to get the proceedings started. I was like a spider in its web waiting. Soon they started getting scared. I kept watching motionless. I already knew that they both had zero chance of doing anything. Then they ran away. I watched them running away and I said in a booming voice β€œare you sure?” I told my trainers about what happened and they introduced me to an internal martial arts master and I am still training with him now.
