Letters (edited)

Things have been a bit quieter with the change in the weather. My Qigong training is really interesting at the moment. I have been writing quite a lot, I write maybe five articles on my blog a week. Mostly short and I try to address what I see as common misunderstandings. Maybe one a two find their way onto social media. I can only hope I can at least wake one person up but most people want to stay in the dream or nightmare depending how you look at it.

With writing it is like watering a dry parched piece of dirt, even if only thorns grow you have at least achieved something. I am not one to step into the thorns and if that is all that is on offer may people find peace in themselves and grow something worthwhile through intelligence and a love of knowledge.

I painted my work above based on a dance work choreographed by Antony Hamilton, it is a bit of tech worship and raises practical questions about the melding of technology and humanity. Zap addresses a more arcane view of analogue technology which is more working class and about physical computing and is meant to be practical like a beautiful 1950s car that can get you from point A to point B in style. The most important question to ask in either representation is what frees you from your burdens? Either way its all a bit of fun and entertaining.

I painted with Michelle again and her painting skills have improved greatly. She also knows how to paint loosely which adds interest and a touch of anarchism to her repertoire rather than getting stuck in technique that becomes limiting in the long run. A lot of talented writers create very strict limits to expression which is mostly coveted as consistent but to me closes doors to perception or happy mistakes. In itself it is about a brand, then it in turn becomes a popular brand but like every professional approach the artist has to disappear and become distant.

It becomes like a Christian trope of going to heaven. To me it is all a capitalist ploy and the artist can be marketed taking any trace of humanity to a greater beyond. To me it is just a great big lie and marketing opportunity. It leaves no room for reality and reality is the missing piece of the puzzle in most cases. Let reality exist and celebrate it. All of the dirt, all of the mess, all of the mistakes, perfection is simply a denial of reality.

  1. Love the pieces there! although, neither you nor I are strangers to the so called singularity. It’s an old stomping ground right?. I remember we passionately pawed over the pages of Akira graphic novels and laughed our asses off to Tetsuo Ironman especially the coffee table scene. Also, Ghost in the Machine, all these inspired days and weeks of ideas and art. Einsturzende Neubauten were a seminal influence in the creative approach to the abomination that is incumbent upon us now. When i get a chance i’ll post you the W.E.F. video of the office of the future including such delightful things as HR dept. brain imaging and monitoring. Gamification of all duties and hyper rat race competition encouraged amongst workers through socially engineered apps at work stations. I don’t think even our best dystopic visionaries even came close to horrors headed our way. (((Huxley and Phillip K Dick))) being the exceptions.
