I suppose the thrill of science fiction is greater than its practicality. The endless entertainment, the fashionable dystopia, the darkness of a technological world. The only thing that worked in Star Wars was the personalities to cover the ugly display. Don’t get me wrong, the simplicity/mastery/complexity of a world far far away is endlessly entertaining.
The biggest joke of a world of robots is the real issue of corrosion. I think corrosion experts would baulk at the task ahead for this supposed trans human world. Metal needs energy to be created and in itself it is simply energy. Nature on the other hand needs to turn energy back into its most stable form. Metal is not a stable form of energy and the future world of robots will need a lot of maintenance.
You could argue that robots would replace everything humans do. Really though what would be the point? The whole meta narrative of replacing humanity doesn’t take into account the way nature controls everything. If you think you can outsmart nature and have a meta replacement then you are either stupid or deluded. Nature is on such a scale that humanity can only mimic it to an extent that is at its best meaningless.
Pure stainless steel can last a long time even when exposed to weather and even longer with a coating on it but any build up of dirt and salts starts breaking it down. Creating pure stainless steel with no impurities takes energy and money. Everyone loves to say who will pay for the green future but nobody asks who will pay for the AI dystopia? It all costs money and takes a lot of production power.
A lot of countries can’t even manufacture their own goods let alone their own dystopian demise at the hands of intelligent robots. I am not saying that robots can’t take jobs but in a way they will create a lot of maintenance jobs. Unless robots start mining, smelting and doing everything humans do to maintain functional integrity of finished industrial creations humans can keep making pointless but entertaining movies.

Great stuff Derek. Really enjoying reading your thoughts on things.
Thanks Red. My Qigong master hammered a lot of points into my head decades ago. He just came out with it. You innately know what is going on but it is kept out of peoples mouths. Only inferred through acceptable ideas that are truly unacceptable.
