Some aerosol writers keep their art and aerosol work separate. That works well for some people who see letters as something they don’t want to spoil or lose to other competing interests. That becomes their way of keeping clear boundaries and the goal can be a particular font that has clarity.
Within these forms there is street knowledge and that is the message which has a particular history. I think ‘Hope’ and ‘Stet’ have this approach locked down in their own ways that are distinct. They keep a certain past and present alive, a certain attitude and approach.
I was thinking the other day that an aerosol writer’s ‘style’ is what they want to manifest for themselves. Their critics and supporters become part of their ‘style’. They grow through style into whatever they are wanting to be. They are tempered through style. It sounds odd but style is really a lifestyle and visual street knowledge.
