Accountability is generally avoided when talking of most things. Say for instance you have a mother who feeds her child frozen meals for most of the child’s life to that point. Then they go on an exchange program overseas and have real food for the first time. They are hospitalised as their body can’t break down real food. In western countries that is seen as choice (choice as in what the parent can provide) rather than abuse. Nobody is accountable as the choices are not illegal.
Say on the other hand journalists expose war crimes by western armies or other sensitive information, the information goes public but is in no way treasonous as it isn’t given to a foreign power. The only people punished are the journalists rather than the people who committed the crimes. So accountability is a big issue in western countries.
Say we go back to food or what is sold as food. Even if it is not nutritional and would lead you to the doctor rather than to sustenance and good health isn’t this really a crime and somewhat anti-human? Alcohol, even prescription drugs are the same. Some people even get addicted to nasal decongestants. You now have addiction built into consumer products and once again nobody is accountable.
The only reason so many tragedies small and large carry on, climate change would be the biggest is people can fudge figures, make empty promises and use technicalities to bypass responsibility. At the same time we can all get onboard one part of the problem, protest as much as possible but nothing changes! Well it’s the whole system, the system that is destroying us that we all love. Only in that it keeps us entertained and distracted with more and more problems piling up.
