I was talking to a young friend the other day and I was trying to explain that sex at its core is about reproduction. They said what about Lesbian sex for example which is a good point. This though opens a big can of worms. How does anyone or anything bypass nature? We have all heard about progress, technology, even transhumanism. Generally people believe we have transcended nature. Humanity is distinct and outside to some extent to purely natural processes.
I am not saying that people aren’t having sex for pleasure but instead trying to highlight the point of having sex organs at all. Obviously you can do whatever you want to whoever consents and whatever. I guess the premise is sex is only pleasurable for reproduction. Sex organs weren’t created with today’s world in mind. That also doesn’t mean that they have fundamentally changed. I am not trying to say people can’t have an identity or certain goals outside of what things are designed for.
In a lot of ways I am trying to bring what has been cast as disparate or separate together. Nature has always done this. It is interconnected, it is intelligent. Culturally we are always dividing race, sexuality and don’t forget the culture wars. Understanding nature, ie what things were meant for actually brings us all closer together. We can have separate goals but that is really the reason I mention these things at all, underlying everything there is a common purpose.
In today’s world what I am trying to say seems like conservative thinking but it has nothing to do with that at all. I wouldn’t say I am a pantheist either. I just feel that people need a common purpose and to understand some of our drives. I mean to say that we eat to survive seems like the same statement and a bit dumb but in fact if we actually understand what food was anymore we could also say we don’t eat to survive. Maybe we eat to pay medical bills for example. Do we also pay medical bills for an identity?
I am not saying I have the answers in any case.
