Know yourself and let the devils sleep

When Chinese people talked about white devils or African Americans talked about white devils it wasn’t just a spiritual treatise on these people in particular. It was about their conduct and behaviour. There is a saying: let the devils sleep. It has no religious connotations but is about the human condition. Any description no matter how loaded or not is basically about humanity and the human condition.

Whether it is spiritual isn’t the point, the point of these descriptions is not only derogatory but practical. African Americans for example were made slaves for their exploitation. Chinese when colonised were also exploited and these days it doesn’t matter who you are you can find yourself exploited by alcohol or drugs or many forms of abuse. People don’t even have to be in a powerful position to abuse others. They can use violence or physical strength for example in a private space.

Exploitation is big money. Not all of it is legal as we all know. Why would you want to join the fray? The underlying meaningless and directionless lives, not only poor but at times wealthy in a world based on superficial outcomes that are out of reach mostly. Even if you crack the code and hit big money your life can become even more pointless. The same problems affect the rich and poor. The lack of self awareness and admitting that yes it is pointless to chase that dream/nightmare when you should be satisfied right now.

Why should you be satisfied right now? Because you should know yourself, be yourself and love yourself unconditionally. Without bling, without shiney new stuff, without perfect teeth I can go on but you know what I mean. Who else have you got? Who else can you work on? Sometimes people come to your house and say, you need a couch, you need air conditioning, your place is too hot. Is that though really your problem? See nobody is really happy with anything. But don’t be like everybody, know what you want, know yourself. If people don’t like it they can go somewhere else. Don’t compromise with unhappiness or criticism.
