latest drawing goals

Have been doing a bit of observational drawing the past few years. I keep visiting a few places over and over. I am finding that the drawings become a selection of plotted lines in some cases. I tend to focus on certain areas that get my attention. I am not worried about describing a likeness at times and sometimes I am. It really depends. I like to see things in the observable world that could be described with a nod to abstraction. There are a lot of things that you see, like if you look at a section of plant growth that makes no sense because they overlay with no clear forms. If you added tone it would be even harder to make out but would probably make more sense visually.

The drawings that I am talking about are not difficult to interpret or understand, in a way just plotting the lines of branches or what would be a tonal shift as a line is easy to make out. What I am getting at is they don’t really have much to do with what was actually in front of me. I am just extracting traces because if I were to draw the complexity in full it would just become a senseless mess. So I suppose I am trying to say the abstraction is a point of focus of an extremely complex selection. I am trying to find relationships in complexity to hopefully create something understandable or appreciable.

Maybe my next venture could be just to try and make a senseless array of lines and extract more and more from what I can make out of this observed selection. Go for a maximalist approach to natural order. Plot as much as I possibly can. I might try that.
