Time pressure

When I was painting graffiti illegally in the past you always had time pressure. In the early 00s when I did a legal wall I would take my time and when painting illegally I knocked the work out. After I stopped illegal work I had a lot of time pressure from family and working life.

I could no longer spend much time at a wall and so I kept painting like I was working illegally. Some younger illegal painters who did legal walls with me were surprised at how fast I knocked my work out. I still work fast now. Mostly I still have time pressure because I try to pack a lot into a day.

Even making art is a quick process where I just knock it out. One reason I kept working fast was because I thought what if graffiti was targeted one day and legal walls didn’t exist anymore. The other reason is I didn’t want to paint stuff that looked like a headache to make or was too polished.

I really dislike overworking things and aerosol is a fast medium so time pressure is still a real thing for me today. Most walls I do, even bigger walls are painted in an hour and half mostly. Everything is fast.
