I am zonked, I am mostly ready for my trip away. I was thinking about Goldie and his services to youth culture through music, graffiti and art. He got knighted and he runs a great record label, his djing is insane, I was trapped a night ago listening to a great set from start to finish on YouTube.
With graffiti it really is a youth culture type of activity, it is kind of strange hitting fifty and still working on it and actually enjoying it. I am mostly fussy about what I do these days and even a lot of my books were aimed at young people, I guess I just never really grew up but I know what I am doing at least.
What surprises me is I put so much effort into aerosol art that I left a lot of other opportunities behind, although I am not upset about it. Anything but this niche aerosol art in the backwaters of Sydney would have actually paid. Although I am lucky my job is somewhat creative at times and I am not afraid of responsibilities.
I work with paint, in my job, in my art, architectural coatings. My aerosol work has been a long unlearning, whatever that means. Cubist gymnast, Veks from the US is a gymnast, the greatest letter bender of them all. Some people just like to do stuff in full public view with no shame.
It is difficult for the heavy hitters to keep up standards and keep on a high level, it is a grind and it never gets easier. I avoid that pain at any cost, I would rather be wandering around my old haunts, walking down the same streets, having a tea party but making letters look like they need discipline and purpose.
